Marikina (AP) -- Jubilation filled The Dungeon Stadium as the Marikina Titans emerged victorious in spectacular form yesterday over the Quezon Titans. In an impressive display of teamwork, every single player scored double digits in the largest margin victory since the beginning of the season. "It was a great win," team owner J-Beet said after the game, "especially sweet because we kept the other team down to just 18 points."
"Everything just worked out today," an exhausted Steve Francis said after the game. "Everyone played their part in the victory." Francis scored 14 points, 1 steal, 2 assists and 8 rebounds in the winning effort. The man of the moment, however, was Leo Greek who scored 23 points, 7 assists, 11 rebounds, 5 steals and 1 block. "It's a good win," Greek declared after the game. "We are feeling great. We will do great things this season."
When asked how he felt about his first game with Marikina, rookie Center Kero Chan said, "It's a lot harder than in Australia and this league definitely has quality players, but luckily, some of the best are on my team." When asked if he was concerned about the dip in his stats, Chan answered, "I'm not really worried about it. All I want to do is concentrate on defense and come up with a win." Chan scored 12 points, 1 block, 3 assists and 7 rebounds in his first game for the Marikina Titans.
"Kero did well in his first game," J-Beet noted, "but the real challenge will be when we face Ian Hill of the Olangapo Supernovas on Wednesday. We're also bringing in a Lithuanian Shooting Guard Just Jura. Basically, this will be our lineup for the rest of the season."
Marikina's next opponent will be the Antipolo Guerillas, the second game in an exhausting 10-game stretch that will test this up-and-coming team.
